Before we can talk we have to talk about why we can’t talk!
In order to have a constructive conversation about anything of importance we must first create the conditions that will support all the voices being heard. Often only the loudest or most confident voices come out in regards to things that matter most leaving the quiet voices in the background. The loudest or most confident voice is not necessarily representative of the majority.
So, slow down and before diving into content ask the group what would create safety. What does each individual need to feel safe and then make a commitment to ensure that safety is upheld and the creation and maintenance of trust is first and fore most. Remember, you don’t have to have all the answers. Get the group talking and they will define the terms that work best for them.
